It was a beautiful experience getting to work with Aida Rodriguez designing her look for her HBO Max comedy special “Fighting Words”. When I sat down to chat with Aida I asked her what her design inspiration was and where it stems from. She wanted to have a look designed that infused her Indigenous Taíno ancestry of the Caribbean culture and a spice of Celia Cruz brought together to create her look.
The entire look was created out of dead stock faux leather, and featured hand stamped cut outs, grommets, and studs. All of the embroidery was used to display traditional taìno symbols inspired by historical art work while fusing the Swarovski crystal grommets to to pay homage to Celia Cruz!
